Where Tradition and Quality Meet
Frank Flood and Anne Brossard enjoyed rural living and the outdoors. In their search for a home, they knew they wanted a stone house with character and history where they could put down roots and raise their young family.
They found their dream home, a stone farmhouse 15km north of Orangeville Ontario. Their 100 plus year old home sits on 10 acres of land backing onto the Niagara Escarpment; an area of ecological importance and habitat for many plants and animals that was declared a Biosphere Reserve in 1990.
"When we found the house, we both just had this feeling that this was the area." said Flood. The family wanted to maintain the original character and history of the farmhouse, however renovate it to be an energy efficient building that would fit into the ecological environment of the Niagara Escarpment.
With character, history and energy efficiency in mind they began researching Timber Frame and Structural Insulated Panel construction for the 20ft x 27ft addition. After much research and consideration they chose the Insulspan® Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) System to use as the wall and roof panels, and PlastiSpan insulation board as the insulation material in the exterior insulation finish systems with a stucco finish.
"It is a superior product," said Flood "it maintains structural integrity and the insulation really helps to keep the interior temperature of the house cool without air-conditioning. "
Insulspan SIPS are designed for long-term strength, safety and security and provide wall and roof assemblies with higher R-Values than typical stick-frame construction. The higher the R-Value the more energy efficient the structure is, lowering energy costs for heating and cooling the home.
"During my visits to the construction site during the duration of the project, the owners and builders really appreciated our service and quality of our products." said Keith Thompson, Insulspan Sales Representative.
"Insulspan service was fabulous - they supplied our roof panels on short notice." said Flood.
"The Insulspan SIP system offers a high R-Value product that is cost-effective." said Todd McGowan, Sales Manager, Thistlewood Timber Frame Homes. "…we have the confidence to supply it to our clients."
