Bellevue, WA – SIPA builder member Shirey Contracting has begun construction on the Zero Energy Idea House, a high-profile demonstration home meant to increase consumer awareness of energy-efficient and renewable energy technologies. The innovative 1,700 sq. ft. home uses Insulspan structural insulated panel (SIP) construction along with other energy saving technologies and photovoltaic solar panels to reach estimated utility costs of around $40 per month. Columbus builder Greentech Construction’s new home features a hand-hewn timber frame salvaged from an 1862 farm house that is being incorporated into a modern, energy-efficient green home.
