United States Federal Incentive Programs

First-Time Homebuyer Tax Credit

First-time homebuyers or buyers who have not owned a principle residence in the last three years are eligible for a 10% tax credit, up to $8,000, for the purchase of a new home. The credit is available for homes purchased on or after January 1, 2009 and before December 1, 2009. Single taxpayers with incomes up to $75,000 and married couples with incomes up to $150,000 qualify for the full tax credit.

Homeowner Energy Efficiency Upgrades

Homeowners can receive a 30% federal tax rebate, up to $1,500, on insulation upgrades to existing homes (including remodels). Insulation must meet the 2009 IECC and be expected to last for five years. SIPs are eligible for this credit. Tax credits are also available for energy-efficient windows, HVAC equipment, water heaters, roofing, exterior doors, and selected renewable energy technologies. With the exception of geothermal, solar, and wind generation systems, the total credit available for a single residence is $1,500.

$2,000 Builder Tax Credit

A credit of $2,000 is available to builders who construct homes that save at least 50% on of the energy needed to heat and cool a home, compared to the 2003 IECC. These credits are available for homes constructed between January 1, 2006, and December 31, 2009.

Seattle/King County - Built Green Grant Program

The Seattle/King County Built Green Grant Program offers periodic competitive grants for single-family residential projects that meet either Built Green 4-star or 5-star certification. Built Green is a non-profit, residential green building program administered by the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties. Grants range from $2,500 to $5,000 for single-family homes, and up to $20,000 for multifamily or community development projects.

Cascade Natural Gas - Conservation Incentives for New Homes

Cascade Natural Gas offers a variety of incentives to residential customers for including energy efficiency measures in new homes in Washington and Oregon. Energy Star homes are eligible for a $350 rebate. Homes qualifying for the Federal $2,000 energy-efficient tax credit are eligible for a $750 rebate. Puget Sound Energy - Commercial New Construction Energy Efficiency Grant Program

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) customers can qualify for grants to offset the cost of energy-efficient construction for new commercial buildings. Customers can follow a prescriptive approach or conduct a whole-building energy analysis. Buildings that are 10% more efficient than the applicable energy code receive a $0.60 per sq. ft. rebate. Buildings that are 30% more efficient receive a $1.80 per sq. ft. rebate. Third party building commissioning earns an additional $0.32 per sq. ft. rebate.

Solar hot water systems installed after April 1, 2009 are eligible for a maximum $2,400 rebate from Green Energy Ohio, a private organization.
